Gravekeer's servant vs Macro Cosmos Chain

Hello,

First, I prevent you that I know the rulling about Gravekeeper's Servant and Macro Cosmos (or D. Fissure) that says I can't attack while these cards are both on the field.


My Opponent had Gravekeeper's Servant on the field and a face-down card (that he set during his previous turn, so I suspected it was Macro Cosmos).

I passed in Battle phase and asked him before attacking with my monster if he had a response. He answered me that I could pay the cost and mill a card. Immediatly after I paid the cost (and I milled one card to grave), he chained Macro Cosmos and told me the card I milled was banished instead, so I could not attack anymore with that monster (so no attack).

Could he do that action ? Since he chained Macro cosmos just after I declared an attack and paid the cost, my card should be sent to grave, so I could attack with that monster just after, no ?

Just a correction,

I think he chained Macro Cosmos just after Attack Declaration (I declared a direct attack, so I had already milled one card in grave). In that condition, its activation was legal.

But since cost was already paid, the card I milled staid in grave, so I still could attack with that monster.
