Pokemon: Kids play this game?

Post  Adept VantageSP on 2012-02-02, 17:11

Have you ever been playing Pokemon and wondered "This is a kids game?". Based on the aesthetics, yes it looks like a kids game. Looking farther into it you will find it is more dark and much more interesting than it seems. Whether you are talking about EV training or IV breeding, or just some of the dark messed up stuff you come across during your travels. Honestly this is one of the reasons why I like Pokemon, there is just so much more than what the surface shows (especially Red/Blue/Green). All the theories, easter eggs, "wtf?"s, the shocking Pokedex entries, etc. Pokemon is full of suprises! Btw, I mean the games, not the anime/manga or TCG.

Some examples:

When I was a kid playing Crystal and such, I would somehow always get lost. My attention span must have been terrible. Now they're somewhat easier. Losing to Whitney's Miltank over and over taught me how to use bad language. :/

Being a kid you just tried to beat everything in the game not knowing EVs or any good way to level up your Pokemon. So much math for a 8 year old. Lmao

Old man spying on teen girls in the gym lmao!!

Training your EV's is what makes these games alone much deeper than a kids game. You also have to decide what six you are going to use in conjunction of what abilities will help out the best with your team. Also have to pick out the right items for your pokemon to hold. On the surface these games are for everyone but deep down I think the games target a bit older audience than Pokemon is targeting.

IMO, any game that the player has to work his brain to play it is not a kid game.

The only thing that intrigued me was Dawn being in FR/LG.

Then why was the S.S. Anne not in Sinnoh?
And where did it even go?
And wtf was with that truck on the island outside the S.S. Anne?

You say you don't mean the anime, but I'm pretty sure most of us have seen this one:
http://cartoonoveranalyzations.com/2009/04/09/pokemon-explained/

but honestly, the stuff like iv and ev, etc. are just stuff that makes Pokemon awesome.
I mean, as a kid, I never even so much as looked at the stats playing pokemon.
These bits weren't made for kids; they were made so those of us who are older can still appreciate the game.
